Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Accordion
The CSRD is a legally binding reporting requirement from the European Union that expands the scope and requirements for sustainability reporting, bringing sustainability reporting on par with financial reporting. It affects all large companies and listed SMEs, requiring them to report on their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts. Compliance is mandatory, and businesses must ensure they meet the detailed reporting standards outlined in the directive.
Achieving net-zero emissions involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and offsetting any remaining emissions through carbon capture or other methods. Our net zero strategy consulting services highlight how to achieve net zero emissions in Ireland and worldwide. Through our Carbon Advisory, we bring you tailored strategies, from scenario analysis to business model innovation, to help your business decarbonise and achieve long-term value.
A Double Materiality Assessment identifies the key sustainability topics material to each individual company and evaluates these issues in terms of their financial impact on the company and the company's impact on environmental and social factors. This comprehensive approach helps businesses understand and report on their significant ESG risks and opportunities, meeting regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.
ESG reporting compliance involves disclosing information on a company's environmental, social, and governance practices. Key elements include assessing risks in the supply chain, analysing ESG data, defining an evidence-based ESG narrative, and adhering to frameworks like GRI and SASB. BDO helps clients create comprehensive ESG reports that meet regulatory demands.
Preparing for future sustainability regulations involves understanding current requirements, identifying gaps in compliance, and implementing sustainability governance frameworks. BDO's Sustainability Readiness and Assurance services include conducting ESG performance analyses, developing roadmaps, and providing independent assurance over internal control frameworks to ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
Scope 3 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in a company's value chain, such as those from suppliers or product use. These emissions often constitute the majority of a company's carbon footprint. Understanding and managing Scope 3 emissions is crucial for comprehensive sustainability strategies and meeting regulatory requirements.
The ESRS are binding reporting standards which require the disclosure of detailed and diverse information over approximately 85 disclosure requirements and more than 1,100 data points, depending on what topics are material to each individual business. The ESRS were introduced to help companies comply with the CSRD’s reporting requirements and the reported information must be audited by external third parties and included in the company’s management report.
