Tom is the Forensic Technology & eDiscovery Lead at BDO’s Forensic Services team in Ireland. He has specialised in digital forensics and eDiscovery since 2017 and is one of Ireland’s most experienced forensic investigators and eDiscovery specialists. He has led dozens of forensic investigations and has worked on some of the most complex and high-profile public inquiries and eDiscovery’s in Ireland and the EU, including the largest eDiscovery in Irish history – QIL v PWC.
Tom has led a number of complex forensic investigations into allegations of fraud, embezzlement, data/IP theft, misuse of company devices, forgery, employee grievances, cryptocurrency fraud, data breaches, Friday Afternoon Scams, and more.
He has been lead technical expert on a number of complex, high-profile and large scale litigations and public inquiries in Ireland, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Germany, France and the UK. He successfully helped deliver the first paperless inquiry in Irish history.
He is an expert in the use of Technology-Assisted Review and eDiscovery review methodologies and has multiple peer-reviewed publications (on this subject in various International Proceedings on Information Retrieval, Information Management, and Document Engineering. He frequently speaks at conferences about eDiscovery best practices and has won awards in this field for his literature.
Tom also contributed to the drafting of the guidelines for using Technology-Assisted Review in the UK courts.
He is a Relativity Certified Master, having attained master status in 2024.
He holds a Master’s Degree (MSc) (1:1) in Digital Investigations and Forensic Computing. He also holds an Master’s Degree (LLM) (Hons) in Intellectual Property & IT Law and a Bachelor of Law Degree (BCL) (Hons) in Law from University College Dublin.
